So where do you start with a blog.

I suppose the beginning is as good as any..

Let me take you back to a boring-ass Sunday sometime in the early ‘90s.

Keep going, I’m old and its a LONG time ago

Now you are back far enough!!

Let me take you back to a boring-ass Sunday sometime in the early ‘90s. I was 15, the TV was crap, and I was restless. You know the feeling — too much energy, nowhere to put it.

So I did what any curious teen might do…. no not that!! : I pinched the free cross stitch kit from the back of my mum’s magazine. It was a brooch type thingy-ma-jig with pre-cut thread, a metal brooch holder and barely legible instructions. I figured I’d give it five minutes, maybe kill some time before dinner.

But something clicked.

It was slow, it was weirdly satisfying, and for the first time in a long time, I felt focused. One little stitch at a time, I built something. Me — the kid with a Walkman full of metal and hardcore rave, scribbles on my schoolbooks, and no time for “quiet crafts.” Who would’ve thought?

That first stitch led to another, and another. And before I knew it, I was into it.

Now I’m 48, covered in tattoos, and still stitching.
Still creating. Still rockin’ that needle.

🪡 Cross Stitch with Edge

Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of cross stitch — the dainty florals, the sassy quotes, the traditional samplers. It’s all got its place. But what I’ve always wanted? A space for people like me — the makers who don’t fit the mold. The ones who stitch skulls next to sunflowers. The ones who blast music while threading a needle. The ones who never stopped creating, even if it looked a little different from the outside.

That’s what Rockin’ That Needle is all about.

It’s part blog, part zine, part celebration of the craft. It’s a place for cross stitchers who live a little louder, a little weirder, and a little more real.

My next post will be about my WIP’s and what I’m focusing on until I get one of them “finishes” that i see people talking about……. I’m a serial starter but I’m trying to be better….. I wonder how long that will last.

Please leave a comment about what you would like to see on the blog and your thoughts so far

Happy Thread Flinging

  1. Excellent! I love your words. Nothing feels like that needle in your hand, creating a beautiful piece from nothing. I stitch to horror movies. Keep this blog up. I’m looking forward to seeing it.

    1. Stitching is a great way to relax, not sure about the horror movies tho….. all those jump scares and needles probably isn’t the safest for me 🤣
